Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran is ready to open the Strait of Hormuz once it accepts a corresponding proposal and to allow UN inspectors into the country's nuclear facilities, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the Iranian leader, Tehran will honor all agreements reached if the United States accepts Iran's proposal on the Strait of Hormuz.
"We will abide by whatever we agree on," Pezeshkian said in an interview with CBS News.
Asked about a possible meeting with Donald Trump, the Iranian president pointed to the distrust that exists between the two countries.
"Every day they tighten sanctions against us. Every day they threaten us. Every day they strike us. And they do not abide by what they themselves have written," he said.
Pezeshkian also confirmed Iran's readiness to admit UN inspectors to verify its nuclear facilities.
"If they want to come and conduct inspections, we can reach agreements on this issue during negotiations," the president said.
He further noted that Iran is not seeking to build nuclear weapons, calling their development religiously forbidden.
"The development of nuclear weapons is haram," Pezeshkian said, adding that even if some representatives of the country wished to pursue that path, religious norms do not permit it.
It was previously reported that Iran, through intermediaries, proposed to the Trump administration that the Strait of Hormuz be opened within seven days of an agreement with Washington.
