A representative of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that Iran is considering prolonging a military conflict with the United States for another three years, according to infohub.kz.
The report cites Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Nagdi, an adviser to the IRGC's commander-in-chief, who discussed the possibility of extending the conflict.
According to Nagdi, Iran aims to ensure its security, and one option to achieve this is to continue the war until the end of Donald Trump's presidential term.
"We need to achieve deterrence so that the enemy never dares to attack us, so that we can live in security. One way is to drag out this war until the next presidential term and inflict such damage that if anyone else wants to attack Iran, they know they will have to pay for it," Nagdi said on PBS, as translated by a Russian agency.
The report notes that Trump's second term will end on January 20, 2029, when the next U.S. president is sworn in. This term will be his last: according to the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, no person can be elected president more than twice. Trump has already won elections in 2016 and 2024.
