Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has responded to US President Donald Trump's statement calling the Strait of Hormuz a new US territory, reports infohub.kz.

Earlier, the White House chief published a map on which the Strait of Hormuz was labeled as "New US Territory." In response, Gharibabadi posted a screenshot of the publication and said that Iran would "correct the misconceptions" of the American leader.

"Soon his misconception about Hormuz will either be corrected, or we ourselves will correct the misconceptions of this man who lives in illusions," the diplomat wrote on social media platform X.

It is recalled that on August 15, Trump announced his intention to declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory in the near future. The day before, he also threatened to strike Oman if it obstructed negotiations with Iran on the matter.
