Iran has conveyed a proposal through intermediaries to the administration of US President Donald Trump to open the Strait of Hormuz within seven days of reaching an agreement with Washington, infohub.kz reports.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the offer, presenting it on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The specific terms of any deal with Washington have not yet been disclosed. Bild reported the development, citing translations of articles in The New York Times and the Financial Times.
Iran had previously demanded the unfreezing of its assets, an end to military operations, and the lifting of the American blockade on Iranian ports and vessels. The White House has confirmed that "positive and constructive negotiations" are underway through intermediaries.
Publicly, however, the two sides remain sharply at odds. At the UN General Assembly, Trump said Iran faces a choice between "greatness" and "obliteration," while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused the United States of terrorism.
