Two American soldiers were killed in an Iranian attack on Al-Azraq airbase in Jordan, with several others wounded, according to the website infohub.kz.
The attack on July 17 involved ballistic missiles and drones, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said. In addition to the two fatalities, one soldier is missing, four wounded personnel were taken to Jordanian hospitals, and several others with minor injuries have returned to duty.
Total confirmed US military losses in the confrontation with Iran now stand at 16, following the incident.
The target was Al-Azraq airbase, which The Wall Street Journal reported US forces have used for regional operations. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps previously claimed to have destroyed several US aircraft at the base.
President Donald Trump expressed condolences to the families of the fallen, calling their deaths a heavy loss for the country. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said the attack only strengthens US resolve to continue military operations.
The escalation between Washington and Tehran followed the breakdown of ceasefire agreements. Despite earlier accords, subsequent attacks near the Strait of Hormuz have led to fresh strikes and heightened confrontation.
Trump earlier stressed that the agreement with Iran is no longer in effect and that military operations against the country will continue until objectives are met.
