Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that two tankers were blown up in the Strait of Hormuz, reports the website infohub.kz.
According to the IRGC, the incident occurred today: both vessels struck mines. Iranian military officials claim that the crews abandoned the ships, which they say were under U.S. control and were following a route not coordinated with Tehran.
"A few hours ago, two violating tankers, having struck mines, were stopped," the IRGC press service said in a statement, also noting that the ships caught fire.
In this regard, the IRGC emphasizes that Iran's armed forces will not relax their control over the strait. Earlier, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) head Brad Cooper had stated that the Strait of Hormuz was being cleared of mines laid by the Iranian side. However, shortly after his remarks, Iranian military officials reported that a supertanker attempting to pass along an unauthorized route had caught fire in the strait.
