Iran's new defense minister, Mehrdad Akhlaki, has commented on the possibility that the United States might use its most powerful non-nuclear bomb, known as the "mother of all bombs," against his country. According to him, Tehran has worked out retaliatory measures and remains calm, the website infohub.kz reports.

"We have worked out the necessary measures on this issue and we are calm. We are carrying out our work with confidence," the ILNA news agency quoted the minister as saying.

Akhlaki also noted that Washington should consider how to withdraw its troops from Iran safely. In his view, if the bomb is dropped, the American side will have to decide how many of its soldiers it will bring out "of the region in a horizontal position."

The defense minister stressed that it is precisely concerns about the possible consequences that have so far kept the United States from using the "mother of all bombs."

Earlier, CNN reported that the US military had developed new plans for strikes on Iran that could involve the use of the most powerful bomb, dubbed the "mother of all bombs."
