Military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Mohsen Rezaei announced the country's intention to shift from defense to offense in the conflict with the United States, reports the website infohub.kz.
Tehran warns of more intense attacks if Washington does not cease strikes within the next two to three days.
“If US attacks continue over the next two to three days, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will move from the stage of deterrence and retaliation to the phase of offensive and total annihilation,” Rezaei said on Iranian television.
He stressed that in that case, US military bases and soldiers outside Iran would become direct targets.
“The reason for Iran’s restraint so far has been the desire to prevent an escalation of security problems and international conflicts (such as the Turkey-Israel, China-Taiwan, and Russia-Europe crises), but a new miscalculation by Washington is leading the region in that direction,” the adviser added.
Rezaei believes that the US administration needs to realize the destructiveness of the strategy of alternating strikes with negotiations.
Recall that exchanges of strikes between the US and Iran began more than a week ago, on the eve of the NATO summit in Ankara.
Later, the White House chief said that the ceasefire regime was over, but Washington was ready for negotiations. In turn, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi noted that the peace treaty with the US had ceased to be in effect.
