Iranian hackers disabled a small power plant in the UK for four days, according to infohub.kz. The incident did not cause any disruption to the country's electricity supply.
According to The Telegraph, this may be the first time that hackers linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have managed to halt operations at a British power station. The name of the facility has not been disclosed by authorities for security reasons. It was offline for four days while staff worked to restore it.
The British government stressed that the incident had no impact on the national grid. "This incident affected a small energy generation site, and at no point was there any threat to the entire energy system," a government spokesperson said.
Following the attack, authorities informed energy company executives and issued recommendations to businesses on strengthening their defenses. The UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) declined to comment on the specific incident. The likely aim of the attack was not to cause real harm to civilians but to demonstrate that Iranian hackers are capable of conducting such operations.
