Kazakh shooter Islam Satpayev has won Kazakhstan's first shooting medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, infohub.kz reports.
The 28-year-old athlete finished third in the 50m small-bore rifle three positions event — prone, kneeling and standing. He scored 348.3 points in the final.
Only two Chinese athletes placed higher. Liu Yukun, the reigning Olympic champion in the discipline, took gold with an Asian Games record of 360.5 points. Zhang Changhong claimed silver with 360.2.
Two other Kazakhs failed to reach the final in the event. Konstantin Malinovsky finished qualification in 13th place, while Nikita Shakhtorin was 20th. In the team standings, the trio of Kazakh shooters placed fifth.
For Satpayev, this is his second Asian Games medal. At the 2022 Hangzhou Games, he and Alexandra Le won bronze in the mixed team 10m air rifle event. The pair also took bronze in the same discipline at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
