Police in Istanbul have detained two people — the roommate and the boyfriend of Kazakh national Aisulu Bekmakhanova — following her death, infohub.kz reports.

According to the Demirören Haber Ajansı (DHA) news agency, the detentions were carried out as part of the investigation on orders from the prosecutor's office. The suspects are 35-year-old Mazhar T., the deceased woman's boyfriend and the owner of a shop, and her apartment roommate, 22-year-old Russian national Darya B.

New details have also emerged. A final photograph of the 26-year-old Kazakh woman has surfaced; she died after falling from the roof of a neighboring building. She reached the roof by climbing over from the balcony of her sixth-floor apartment in the Şişli district. According to the agency, her roommate Darya B., who took the photo, warned her not to sit near the edge of the roof, to which she reportedly replied: "I'll sit here, you go to sleep."

Police established that before the incident the Kazakh woman had been at her boyfriend's place and left at around 07:40.

In her testimony, Darya B. said she woke up in her room to loud music. Getting up to check what was happening, she found that her friend was not in the room. According to her account, after hearing some noise she noticed a damaged roof element on the neighboring building, and when she looked into the light well (the inner courtyard shaft), she saw her friend lying motionless.

It has emerged that Darya B. said that the previous evening she and Bekmakhanova had left the house, and at around 05:00 they parted ways — Bekmakhanova went to her boyfriend. In this connection, police questioned Mazhar T., the shop owner, who turned out to be Bekmakhanova's boyfriend. Mazhar T. claimed that Bekmakhanova came to him at around 5:30 a.m., they spent time together, and at around 7:40 a.m. she left his establishment and headed home.

It has been established that Bekmakhanova and her apartment roommate Darya B. arrived in Turkey on Tuesday, September 8.
