Jaecoo has received vehicle type approval (OTTS) for two models — the J5 and J7 PHEV, confirming their serial assembly in Kazakhstan. The documents, issued on August 18, officially cement local production at the Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan plant in Almaty and reveal technical details of the upcoming versions, reports infohub.kz.

According to the OTTS, the Jaecoo J5 crossover will feature front-wheel drive and a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine (SQRE4T15C) producing 108 kW (about 147 horsepower) and 210 Nm of torque. The engine runs on gasoline with an octane rating of at least 92. The vehicle measures 4380 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2620 mm and a curb weight of 1482 kg.

The Jaecoo J5 will come equipped with dual-zone climate control, a 13.2-inch multimedia screen, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also included are a panoramic roof, heated front seats and steering wheel, power-adjustable driver's seat and power tailgate, and wireless charging. Some features will be optional, including a 360/540-degree surround-view camera, automatic parking system, head-up display, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV, also granted OTTS on August 18, is a plug-in hybrid with a series-parallel configuration. The powertrain includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine (SQRH4J15) producing 105 kW (about 143 horsepower) and 215 Nm of torque. The electric motor, integrated into the transmission housing, can act as a starter-generator and traction motor, enabling pure electric driving, combined operation of the engine and electric motor, and battery charging from the engine or via regenerative braking.

The J7 PHEV's traction battery is located under the floor. The document specifies lithium iron phosphate chemistry, 112 cells, and a capacity of 52 Ah. The operating voltage ranges from 224 to 408.8 V, and the electric-only range is 106 km. The crossover measures 4500 mm in length, 1865 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2672 mm and a curb weight of 1870 kg.

Both OTTS are valid until August 17, 2029. They explicitly state that the manufacturer and assembly plant is Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan in Almaty. Thus, the J5 and J7 PHEV are certified for serial production in Kazakhstan. The start dates for sales of local versions have not yet been announced.
