President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov sharply criticized Kyrgyz people living abroad during celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the country's independence in Talas, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by a regional outlet, the head of state criticized certain compatriots abroad. At the same time, he separately thanked Kyrgyzstanis working abroad for their contribution to the country's economy.
Referring to the works of Chingiz Aitmatov, Sadyr Japarov invoked the image of the mankurt and the tragedy of a society that forgets its history, language, and culture.
"Such sons of ours, while abroad, for a piece of bread they get there, seek out the bad even in the good things happening in their own country, displaying mankurtism. We will try to educate them and call them to order," Sadyr Japarov said, translated from Kyrgyz.
The president did not specify whom exactly he meant or what measures he envisioned.
Later in the same speech, Sadyr Japarov addressed compatriots who have lived and worked outside the Kyrgyz Republic for decades. He noted that far from their homeland, their value and love for their country are especially felt.
