President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said he does not plan to return former State Committee for National Security (SCNS) head Kamchybek Tashiev to any government position, reports infohub.kz.
In an interview with journalist Ali Toktakunov, Japarov stressed that Tashiev remains his friend, but will no longer hold any post in the government. "Yes, we have been friends since 2005, we socialized as families. In 2020, when I was released and became president, I appointed him chairman of the SCNS. He worked well for five years. But he had one flaw: he couldn't keep an eye on his friends and classmates. He left the post," the president said.
The head of state added that people don't have flaws, but Tashiev should "understand where he went wrong." "He will remain my friend, but I have no plans to appoint him to any position. I'm far from saying he only made mistakes. No, there are results, there is his huge contribution to our country's successes," he said.
Tashiev was long considered a key ally of Japarov, and their tandem was informally called "ekidos" (two friends). However, on February 10, 2026, Japarov unexpectedly dismissed Tashiev from his posts as head of the SCNS and deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, after which the general temporarily left the country.
In early July, Tashiev was sentenced to four years for attempting a coup. He will remain free but will be under probation supervision. According to the court verdict, his property is subject to confiscation.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Tashiev gave his "word of honor as a general" not to run for president of Kyrgyzstan.
