Former head of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (GKNB) Kamchybek Tashiev has appealed his conviction in the so-called 'letter of 75' case over an alleged coup attempt, infohub.kz reports.
According to the news outlet, Tashiev's lawyer Ikramidin Aitkulov said the appeal has been filed with the Bishkek city court. The court is expected to review the case within about two months.
Earlier, a Bishkek court found Tashiev guilty in the 'letter of 75' case. He was sentenced to four years in prison with confiscation of property, but was released from serving the sentence and placed under probation supervision for three years.
The case stems from a letter signed by a group of former high-ranking officials, lawmakers, and public figures, who urged President Sadyr Japarov to hold early presidential elections. Also convicted in the case are former Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev, ex-Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, and five signatories of the letter.
Earlier this week, Kyrgyzstan announced the date for the next presidential election, set for January 27, 2027. The decree was signed by President Sadyr Japarov.
