A man has been sentenced in the Karaganda Region for murder and attempted murder committed in Balkhash, infohub.kz reports.
According to the official Telegram channel of the Karaganda Region courts, the pre-trial investigation charged the man with murder and attempted murder (Articles 99, Part 1; 24, Part 3; 99, Part 2, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code).
The court found that on May 9, 2026, in Balkhash, after drinking alcohol together in an acquaintance's apartment, the defendant, motivated by a personal grudge, inflicted multiple knife wounds on one of the men on the balcony, causing his death. He then attempted to murder a second victim, who survived only thanks to timely medical assistance.
The defendant's guilt was fully proven by the totality of evidence collected in the case, including testimony from the victim, experts, and witnesses, findings of forensic medical and forensic biological examinations, and other case materials.
The wife of the deceased and the surviving victim insisted on a strict punishment. The defense asked for the man's acquittal, citing insufficient evidence of his guilt.
No mitigating circumstances were established. The court recognized the defendant's state of alcohol intoxication and dangerous recidivism as aggravating circumstances.
The court sentenced him to a total of 22 years in prison, to be served in a maximum-security correctional facility.
The victims' civil claims for moral damages were fully satisfied: 10 million tenge was awarded to the widow and 5 million tenge to the male victim.
Claims for material damages were partially satisfied in accordance with the receipts and supporting documents submitted to the court. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force.
