A man from Karaganda, convicted of fraud totaling 44 million tenge and placed on the wanted list, was detained in Almaty thanks to a video surveillance system with facial recognition, reports infohub.kz.
The 37-year-old resident of Karaganda, wanted for large-scale fraud, was detained in Almaty. He caused material damage to the victim exceeding 44 million tenge. According to the court verdict, the man was under probation supervision, but in 2023 he left his place of residence without permission and disappeared.
Despite evading law enforcement for three years, the search never stopped. Operational information indicated that the wanted man was in Almaty. Police officers did not need to carry out special search operations—the decisive moment came when he visited a supermarket, where he was caught on the city's video surveillance cameras.
Modern technologies using neural networks matched his image with the database of wanted persons and accurately identified him. After receiving the alert, local police promptly detained the Karaganda resident. Following identity confirmation, he was transferred to Karaganda. He is currently in custody awaiting a court decision. Subsequently, the court will consider revoking the earlier probation sentence and imposing a prison term.
