A court in Karaganda's Alikhan Bokeikhan district has heard a criminal case involving the extortion of money from a resident of a boarding school for children with developmental disabilities. Two defendants each received 3 years and 6 months in prison, according to infohub.kz.

According to the official Telegram channel of the Karaganda Region courts, the defendants were charged with extortion by a group of persons by prior conspiracy with the threat of violence (Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code).

The court established that in August 2025, the defendants learned that more than 3 million tenge had accumulated in a special account belonging to a resident of a boarding school for children with developmental disabilities. These funds came from the state in the form of monthly allowances.

On August 20, 2025, in the courtyard of a building in the Vostok-2 microdistrict, one of the defendants rudely demanded that the victim hand over this money. Fearing for his life, the victim agreed. The defendants then took him to a bank branch several times to withdraw 3 million tenge, but the bank refused due to the absence of a certificate from the school administration.

On January 4, 2026, the defendant suggested that the victim pawn his mobile phone at a pawnshop. After being refused, the next day both defendants again threatened the boarding school resident with bodily harm and demanded money or a mobile phone. Frightened by the threats, the victim gave them his mobile phone worth 189,000 tenge.

The defendants' guilt was fully proven by their confessions, the victim's testimony, witness statements, and other case materials.

The victim asked for a strict punishment. The defense asked for a sentence not involving imprisonment.

In sentencing, the court recognized as circumstances mitigating criminal liability and punishment for one defendant the presence of a young child and sincere remorse, and for the other defendant sincere remorse. No aggravating circumstances were established.

By the court's verdict, the defendants were found guilty of the crime under Point 2 of Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code. Taking into account the nature and public danger of the offense committed against a boarding school resident with disabilities and with the threat of violence, as well as to prevent new criminal offenses, they were sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison.

The court's verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
