Legendary 1990s supermodel Karen Mulder has reappeared on the cover of Vogue magazine. The 57-year-old model graces the September issue of the German edition, marking her first major shoot in decades, reports infohub.kz.
In the 1990s, Mulder was one of the world's most sought-after models. She worked with fashion houses such as Chanel, Dior, Versace, and Victoria's Secret, and appeared on the cover of Vogue nine times.
However, in the early 2000s, she suddenly disappeared from public life. Later, Mulder spoke about experiencing sexual assault and other issues in the modeling industry. Her statements in 2001 sparked widespread public outcry, after which she was admitted to a psychiatric clinic.
Subsequently, Mulder retracted some of her accusations, claiming she was forced to admit her words were fabricated.
Now, years later, the model has decided to speak candidly about her past and her return to the profession in an interview with German Vogue. According to her, she previously lacked self-confidence.
"I thought that because I was famous, I would be believed. I just wanted all those terrible things to stop, so that men would no longer think they could do whatever they wanted," Mulder shared.
She believes that now is the right time for a comeback. "I am not the same person I was before. I look to the future with optimism," the supermodel stated.
German Vogue noted that Mulder was one of the first models to publicly speak out about problems and abuses in the fashion industry. The new cover symbolizes her return after a long absence.
