In Almaty, drivers of sports karts staged a race to the high-altitude complex Medeu, mistaking the race track for a city road. The incident occurred on August 6, 2026, reports the website infohub.kz.
The Almaty Police Department said that the owners of sports karting cars decided to drive along the road towards Medeu, but their flashy trip quickly ended with a meeting with police. The video of the unusual convoy was discovered by police officers during monitoring of social networks.
The identities of all participants in the race have been established. Four citizens were brought to administrative responsibility for violating traffic rules. All sports cars were placed in a specialized impound lot.
The police reminded that public roads are not intended for the use of sports equipment, and any such races pose a threat to road safety and entail liability.
