The servicemen who died tragically in the Mangystau Region during exercises on the Caspian Sea had just 8 days left to serve — their tickets home had already been purchased. This was reported by Arman Satkanov, deputy commander-in-chief of the naval forces, according to infohub.kz.
According to him, the deceased were serving in the marine assault battalion of the naval base's marine corps and had shown good results. Before the tragedy, the troops conducted two drills, and all of them knew the landing procedure.
"The guys served well as part of the marine assault battalion of the naval base's marine corps. Before that, they conducted two drills, and the guys all knew about the landing. These were major final strategic command-and-staff exercises held across all of Kazakhstan. One of the episodes was a seaborne landing on shore. But on the day of the landing, a wave rose and they were overwhelmed during the landing," the publication "Moy Gorod" quoted Arman Satkanov as saying.
The deputy commander-in-chief of the navy added that everyone involved in the incident is currently giving testimony. The ministry is providing psychological and financial assistance to the families of the deceased.
Recall that on September 24, while carrying out a combat training task, 17 servicemen were swept into the Caspian Sea due to a sudden and sharp deterioration in weather conditions and gusty winds. Fourteen of them died.
Three servicemen were rescued, and one was hospitalized. The day before, the regional health department reported that the patient had been taken to the Mangystau Regional Multidisciplinary Hospital, and his condition was assessed as stable but serious.
Among the survivors is 19-year-old Beket Kuandyk from the Atyrau Region.
