Twenty people were evacuated following an incident at the ore processing plant No. 1 at the Aktogay mine in the Abai region, according to infohub.kz.

According to KAZ Minerals, the incident occurred on August 9 at around 12:00 at the high-pressure grinding rolls section during scheduled maintenance. The initial source of the fire was in the area of the screen. The work was being carried out by employees of a contractor.

The company's press service noted that there were no injuries and no complaints related to smoke. Twenty people were evacuated from the production site. The open flame was quickly extinguished, with no smoldering or smoke remaining. There is no threat to nearby buildings, conveyors, or other production areas, and no environmental impact.

The cause of the incident is yet to be determined. A special commission has been established for investigation, and state authorities have been notified.

KAZ Minerals is also assessing the extent of material damage and the potential impact on repair timelines and production.

The second processing plant and the oxide ore processing complex are operating normally.
