"The International Testing Agency (ITA), on behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), reports that the sample of Kazakh track and field athlete Ayana Bolatbekkyzy returned an adverse analytical finding for a metabolite of drostanolone — 3α-hydroxy-2α-methyl-5α-androstan-17-one," the ITA statement said.

The agency explained that drostanolone is classified as a non-specified substance and is prohibited at all times, both in and out of competition.

"The athlete has been notified of the matter and has been provisionally suspended from competition with immediate effect pending resolution of the case in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and the OCA Anti-Doping Rules. This means the athlete is barred from competing, training, coaching or taking part in any activity during the Asian Games," the organization said.

The athlete has the right to challenge the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport — Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD). She may also request analysis of the B sample.
