Kazakhstani chess player Bibisara Asaubayeva won the bronze medal at the 2026 Cairns Cup, held in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The athlete scored five points in nine rounds, tying for third place with American Clarissa Yip. Both participants received bronze awards, according to infohub.kz.
In her Telegram channel, Asaubayeva posted a video message summarizing the tournament. "It was an even tournament. A working one, I'd say. The most important thing is that I'm finally leaving the USA soon. I'm a bit tired of being here for so long," the chess player admitted.
Earlier, the financial results of the competition were announced: it became known how much the Kazakhstani earned for her medal performance at the Cairns Cup.
According to the official schedule, the tournament closing is set for Thursday, August 20. The next day, participants are expected to leave the venue.
One of Asaubayeva's upcoming starts will be the 46th World Chess Olympiad, which will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 15 to 27.
