A tragedy occurred at a construction site in Omsk, Russia, where two men died in a fire, one of whom was a citizen of Kazakhstan. 24-year-old Maxim Baginsky suffered burns to about 70% of his body and died in hospital on August 18, reports infohub.kz.
According to TASS, the deceased worked for Global Engineering, which was a contractor on the site. Russia's Investigative Committee confirmed that the young man was listed as an employee of that organization.
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of its citizen. In an official statement, the ministry said: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan expresses sincere condolences to the family and friends of the citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan who died in a fire in the city of Omsk on August 18, 2026."
The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Omsk is assisting the family of the deceased with the necessary documents and maintains contact with Russian authorities. The MFA also noted that they are in touch with relatives.
A criminal case has been opened in Russia on charges of violating labor safety requirements. Investigators are determining the cause of the fire and those responsible for worker safety at the site.
In total, according to Russian special services, 11 people were injured. Two patients with the most severe burns were earlier transferred to Nizhny Novgorod.
