A citizen of Kazakhstan suspected of large-scale fraud has been extradited from the Russian Federation, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the man is accused of committing fraud on an especially large scale. The investigation established that in February 2019, he deceived three citizens by promising to help them secure a contract for gold ore mining at a deposit in the Akmola region. For his services, he received $500,000 from them.
Additionally, in 2021, the suspect convinced two entrepreneurs to give him 93.4 million tenge for assistance in concluding a contract with JSC "NC "KazAvtoZhol" for road construction works.
After committing the crimes, the man fled and was placed on the international wanted list. In September of last year, he was detained in Moscow, and at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, he was extradited to his homeland.
Currently, the suspect is in a pre-trial detention center. The crimes he is charged with carry a penalty of 5 to 10 years in prison, with confiscation of property and a possible lifetime ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities.
