Newly appointed Kazakh Defense Minister Aidos Myrzakhmetov made a surprise visit to a military unit in the Akmola garrison, infohub.kz reports.
According to the Defense Ministry, the head of the agency reviewed the organization of service and the living conditions of servicemen. During the inspection, particular attention was paid to the state of the barracks facilities and the unit's infrastructure.
Judging by the published footage, the minister visited the unit's kitchen and training rooms, and checked the condition of the sleeping quarters and the organization of daily life for servicemen. The major general also spoke personally with conscripts.
Following the visit, specific instructions were issued to improve living conditions.
Recall that the leadership of Kazakhstan's defense agency recently underwent a reshuffle. Dauren Kosanov was dismissed as defense minister, and Aidos Myrzakhmetov was appointed in his place.
This came after Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev signed an order to establish a commission for a comprehensive review of the state of affairs at the Kazakh Defense Ministry following the deaths of servicemen in Mangystau.
On September 24, during a training and combat exercise, 17 servicemen were swept into the Caspian Sea by a sudden and sharp deterioration in weather conditions and gusty winds; 14 of them died. Three survived.
