The rescue of a severely premature baby, airlifted from Thailand, has ended successfully in Almaty. After more than two months of intensive treatment, a complicated surgery, and continuous monitoring, the infant has recovered and been discharged home for further rehabilitation, according to the website infohub.kz.
Doctors at the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Health saved the life of baby Aslan Aliev, who was born on the island of Phuket, Thailand, deeply premature and in critical condition. After more than two months of treatment, the boy was discharged home to continue recovery under medical supervision.
“At the time of medical evacuation, the child was only one month and 18 days old. He was flown to Almaty on a medical evacuation flight with extremely low body weight and severe complications. Immediately after arrival, the baby was hospitalized in the intensive care unit for newborns at the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery,” said the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan.
For more than two months, the center's specialists fought for the life of the little patient. During intensive therapy, doctors timely identified a life-threatening complication — a covered intestinal perforation. After a consultation, a decision was made for urgent surgical intervention.
“Pediatric surgeons successfully corrected the pathology by performing a life-saving operation. After surgery, the child was under round-the-clock observation by a multidisciplinary team, including neonatologists, anesthesiologists-resuscitators, pediatric surgeons, nursing staff, and other medical workers,” the ministry noted.
Thanks to comprehensive therapy, modern medical technologies, and the professional work of specialists, the baby's condition was stabilized.
“During treatment, Aslan gained 1,200 grams. Today his weight is 2,500 grams. The child breathes independently without oxygen support, receives nutrition naturally, and his intestinal functions are gradually recovering, which allowed him to be transferred to the next stage of treatment and rehabilitation at home,” explained the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan.
Abay Kusainov, head of the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery, noted that the success of the treatment was made possible by the coordinated work of specialists and timely medical evacuation.
“Every stage of treatment required balanced clinical decisions and maximum concentration from the entire team. Thanks to timely medical evacuation, prompt diagnosis, emergency surgical intervention, and the professionalism of the specialists, we managed to save the child's life. I want to note that the entire complex of expensive medical care was provided to the baby's family for free, at the expense of the state,” emphasized Abay Kusainov.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that Kazakhstan remains the only country in Central Asia where medical aviation is integrated into the national emergency medical system. It provides not only patient transport but also the dispatch of specialized medical teams, performance of complex medical interventions on site, and interregional patient routing.
The ministry expressed gratitude to neonatologists, anesthesiologists-resuscitators, pediatric surgeons, nurses, the staff of the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery, and medical aviation specialists, thanks to whom the life of the little patient was saved. They wished Aslan good health, full recovery, and successful rehabilitation.
