Kazakh drivers have been caught stealing toilet paper and soap in large quantities and damaging roadside toilets. To combat vandalism, video surveillance cameras will be installed at rest areas and regular patrols will be organized, reports infohub.kz.
According to the national company KazAvtoZhol, there are currently 1,114 sanitary facilities along republican highways, of which 180 are heated and 934 are cold. By the end of 2026, another 13 heated sanitary units are planned to be installed. New facilities are placed taking into account traffic intensity, road section characteristics, and actual user demand.
In addition, there are 1,443 roadside service facilities along republican routes, including gas stations, food outlets, campsites, accommodation facilities, and other service points. They also have sanitary units, KazAvtoZhol clarified.
The condition of roadside toilets is the responsibility of employees of KAZservice LLP, as well as owners and tenants of roadside service facilities. The company added that in 2025, 224 complaints were received about the condition of roadside toilets, and in 2026, 186.
Issues can be reported via the contact center 1403, WhatsApp, and Telegram. QR codes for submitting complaints are also posted at sanitary facilities.
