Kazakh athlete Zeinolla Idrisov claimed gold at the Challenge Cup gymnastics stage in Szombathely, Hungary, infohub.kz reports.
He advanced to the pommel horse final with the top qualifying score. In the decisive round, Idrisov also took first place with 14.766 points.
Croatia's Mateo Zugec won silver in the event (14.300), while Iceland's Dagur Olafsson took bronze (14.233).
In the floor exercise, Altynkhan Temirbek finished just off the podium in fourth place (13.733). Croatia's Aurel Benovic won gold (14.166). Bulgaria's Dimitar Dimitrov took silver (13.966). Austria's Martin Miggitsch completed the podium in third (13.833).
The Challenge Cup is the next most prestigious international series after the World Cup. The Hungarian stage wraps up on September 20. Three Kazakh athletes will compete for medals on Sunday: Asan Salimov (vault), Diyas Toishybek (horizontal bar) and Emil Akhmedzhanov (parallel bars).
