17-year-old Kazakh athlete Ulbossyn Esirkep has won the III Open Central Asian Athletics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, reports infohub.kz.
In the javelin throw, she recorded the best result of 38.85 meters, securing the gold medal. Uzbekistan's Anna Chikalova took second place with 35.08 meters, while another Uzbek athlete, Zulfiya Ibrogimova, claimed bronze with a throw of 35.06 meters.
This victory is Esirkep's first of the season. Earlier, she finished in the top three at the national championships in Astana.
Esirkep's gold is the first for the Kazakh team at this year's Central Asian Championships. Previously, the national squad had won a bronze medal: David Yefremov finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.12 seconds.
The III Open Central Asian Athletics Championships are being held in Tashkent from August 23 to 25.
