The World Judo Cadets Championships kicked off in Guayaquil, Ecuador, with Kazakhstan's national team taking part, reports infohub.kz.
On the first day of competition, Kazakh athletes secured five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.
Gabit Rasulkhan became world champion in the under-60 kg category. In the final bout, he defeated Canada's Roman Semirozum, bringing the team its first gold medal of the tournament.
Adilzhan Nurbeken (under 50 kg) and Adiya Zhanakhmet (under 40 kg) took silver.
Bekarys Kudaibergen (under 50 kg) and Akhmet Baubek (under 60 kg) won bronze.
Thus, after the first day of competition, Kazakhstan's team has five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.
