A resident of Kazakhstan, attempting to log into his personal account on the eGov portal, discovered that he had accessed another user's account. The incident was so unexpected that the young man decided to share it on social media, drawing the attention of the system operator, JSC "National Information Technologies" (NIT), which initiated an investigation, according to infohub.kz.
A user named Sherkhan Kairatuly posted a video on Threads demonstrating the issue. According to him, after logging in, he saw another person's data instead of his own profile. "I logged into someone else's account on eGov when I tried to access mine. How is this even possible?" the author wrote.
JSC "National Information Technologies" responded promptly, stating that specialists have begun a detailed analysis of the situation. The company emphasized that a technical review of the described authorization scenario is underway, and additional materials have been requested from the author for a comprehensive examination.
"Currently, specialists of JSC 'National Information Technologies' are conducting a detailed technical review of the stated circumstances, including an analysis of the authorization scenario described by the user. For a comprehensive consideration of the situation, additional materials have also been requested from the author of the publication," the company commented in response to a request from Kursiv.
It remains unclear whether this is an isolated technical glitch or if the issue could have affected other users. Official data on the causes of a possible failure or confirmation of unauthorized access to another account have not been provided. NIT has promised to release more information after the investigation concludes.
It is worth noting that Kazakhstan ranks 24th in the UN e-Government Survey. Today, 90.4% of government services are available online, and nearly 96% of them can be accessed via smartphone. Since the beginning of last year, over 51.5 million digital government services have been provided to citizens, and the eGov AI intelligent consultant has processed more than 2 million inquiries.
