A 51-year-old resident of the Aktobe region has been extradited from Saudi Arabia to Kazakhstan on charges of terrorism propaganda. The Aktobe city court heard the case of the man who, according to investigators, distributed materials bearing signs of terrorism propaganda via Telegram while living in Saudi Arabia, reports infohub.kz.
Authorities established that the man departed through Almaty for Saudi Arabia in 2008 and resided in Medina. The prosecutor stated that several expert examinations were conducted, confirming that the messages he sent contained indications of terrorism propaganda.
In court, the defendant said: "I went to Saudi Arabia with my wife and three children. After converting to Islam, I wanted to deepen my knowledge. I lived there from 2008 to 2026. One of the people I sent messages to came to Medina in 2018 to study. That is how we met. I met the second person at a mosque in Aktobe. I do not recall the third person. I now realize my mistake and sincerely repent. I did not know that text promoted terrorism."
During the hearing, video recordings found on the defendant's phone were shown, depicting scenes of armed conflict. According to case materials, the man was placed on a wanted list in 2019 and later on an international wanted list through Interpol. The investigation was repeatedly extended and at times suspended.
This year, the suspect was detained and extradited to Kazakhstan. His lawyer filed a petition for a procedural agreement.
