In the North Kazakhstan region, a probationer went fishing with friends and ended up losing his freedom, reports infohub.kz.

According to the press service of the regional penal system department, modern probation control technologies allowed them to quickly locate the convict who left his place of residence without notifying the inspector.

This was the case for a 35-year-old resident of the Timiryazev district, who was under probation supervision. Earlier, the man had been sentenced to restriction of freedom for giving false testimony in an attempt to cover up his friend who was driving under the influence of alcohol.

During his sentence, he repeatedly violated the terms. As a result, electronic monitoring was imposed on him.

Probation officers arrived at his home for a check, but the convict was not there.

Thanks to the data from the electronic tracking device and the mobile app "Digital Probation," officers determined his direction of travel and actual location. Immediately heading to the specified geolocation, inspectors found the man in another village - he had gone fishing with friends.

The unauthorized departure without notifying the inspector and without proper permission was another violation of the conditions of his sentence.

Given his previous violations, the probation service submitted materials to the court to consider replacing the restriction of freedom with imprisonment.

Ultimately, the court decided to replace the sentence. The man will have to serve 3 years and 6 months in prison.
