A story about a young man from Kazakhstan who needed temporary housing in New York is gaining traction on social media. Hundreds of users responded to his request for help, reports infohub.kz.
A woman reached out to the online community asking to host the Kazakh man for four days, as he arrived earlier than the start of his grant program.
"He won a UN program, but it starts on September 6, and until then he doesn't know where to stay. All housing is $200 and up. Maybe someone can help find a cheaper and safe place. The guy is smart, a student, and can help if needed," the user explained.
Instead of advice, people in the comments began offering their help and inviting the young man to stay with them for free.
"I live in Sparta, New Jersey... Write to me, he can stay with me for free... I'll drive him to the station and pick him up... I'm from Kyrgyzstan," wrote one user.
"We live in New Jersey, not far from Manhattan, about 15 minutes by train. He can stay with us for free! If anything, write," offered another user.
"I'm reading and crying. I love our nation and the Turkic-speaking people. When I first came to China, an unfamiliar Kyrgyz helped me find an address, a Turk protected me from an aggressive Chinese man, and I stayed with a Kazakh woman," shared a commenter.
Users admired this level of mutual assistance and even expressed a desire to become part of this community.
"What are you guys doing? Now I want a Kazakh passport," "I want to read such threads. I love our people," write users from other countries.
