In Semey, meetings with friends led to imprisonment for a man under probation supervision, reports infohub.kz.
According to the press service of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions for the Abai Region, a 34-year-old resident of the region was convicted of stealing non-ferrous metal items. The court sentenced him to three years and six months of restriction of liberty.
After the verdict, the man was registered with the probation service in Semey. Officers explained the rules of serving the sentence, his duties, and warned him of liability for violations.
Despite this, the convict repeatedly violated the established requirements. During checks, he was not at home, and he deliberately did not charge the electronic monitoring device.
Due to systematic violations, the probation service petitioned the court. As a result, the court replaced his restriction of liberty with imprisonment. The unserved term amounted to two years and one month.
The convict expressed remorse: "I was given a chance to remain free and reform. I could have worked, earned money honestly, and started a new life. My health allows me to work, but I chose a different path. I committed theft for money to buy alcohol. Even while under probation supervision, I continued to meet with friends and drink. I didn't think about the consequences and believed everything would be fine. Now I realize I was wrong. Because of my actions, I lost the opportunity to be free. I have no family, wife, or children, and my parents have long stopped communicating with me. Now I understand that alcohol and such company only destroyed my life. I thought my friends supported me, but now I realize they didn't care about my life. Real friends should have helped me stop, kept me away from problems and bad deeds, not made the situation worse. I am to blame for not stopping in time. I deeply regret my actions and wish I could turn back time."
