More than 200 future military doctors are undergoing training in Kazakhstan and at foreign medical universities, the Ministry of Defense said. In 2027, the military-medical units of the Armed Forces will be joined by about 40 graduates of bachelor's, internship and residency programs, infohub.kz reports.

The majority of the future specialists study at the Military Institute of the Air Defense Forces. More than 150 medical cadets, including over 80 women, undergo military training there. The cadets study medical disciplines at the M. Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University. All of them are fully funded by the state.

Another 50-plus future military doctors study at medical universities in Turkey, Armenia, China and Russia.

At the request of the Ministry of Defense, targeted educational grants have been allocated for doctors to train in residency at the S. D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and Astana Medical University. Specialists are trained in surgery, anesthesiology and intensive care, therapy, radiology and clinical laboratory diagnostics.

"The program to attract young specialists to meet the needs of military-medical institutions has been implemented for the second year in a row. Currently, 16 people are undergoing training, who will subsequently continue serving in our units," said Colonel of the Medical Service Berik Ilyasov, deputy head of the Main Military-Medical Directorate of the Armed Forces for treatment and preventive work.

Residency training is financed as part of cooperation between the ministries of defense and health. Targeted grants make it possible to train doctors in specialties that are in demand in military-medical units and institutions.

Cooperation with Kazakh and foreign medical universities will continue, taking into account the needs of the Armed Forces.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Kazakhstan has updated the state standard for training doctors. According to an order from the Ministry of Health, training includes higher medical education and an internship with practical training under the guidance of physician-mentors with at least five years of experience.
