A first-year student has won a court ruling requiring her father to pay alimony for her university education after she reached adulthood, reports infohub.kz.
According to the official Telegram channel of the Zhambyl Regional Courts, the Shu District Court considered a civil case filed by the student against her father. The young woman is studying full-time on a fee-paying basis at the Kokshetau University named after Abay Myrzakhmetov and stopped receiving alimony after turning 18. Due to her full-time studies, she has no regular income or employment opportunities and incurs expenses related to tuition, accommodation, and other necessary costs.
The defendant partially admitted the claim, stating that he does not refuse to provide financial support to his daughter but asked the court to consider his financial and family situation. The court established that the defendant is in his second marriage, has five minor children, a permanent job, and credit obligations.
The court noted that parents have equal obligations to support their children. It also took into account that the plaintiff is studying on a fee-paying basis and cannot support herself during her studies.
By the court's decision, the defendant is to pay alimony to his daughter in the amount of 17 monthly calculation indices (MCI) per month for the period of study until July 2028, as well as a state fee to the state budget. The decision has entered into legal force.
