The Kazakh team BULAN from Nazarbayev University has been awarded the special Mabuchi Motor Award at the international robotics championship ABU Robocon 2026, held in Hong Kong, reports infohub.kz.

According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, university teams from 21 countries took part in the competition.

“The Mabuchi Motor Award is given for originality of engineering solutions, quality of mechanical design, and effective combination of mechanical, electronic, and software components. Participation in the championship marked Kazakhstan's return to the international ABU Robocon arena after a seven-year hiatus. This year, the national selection and team preparation were organized by the USTEM Foundation,” the ministry noted.

The qualifying stage took place on July 1 as part of the Almaty Tech Cup. As a result, the BULAN team from Nazarbayev University emerged victorious, earning the right to represent Kazakhstan in the final in Hong Kong.

The team comprised 28 students from various specialties, including mechanics, electronics, programming, design, and project management. At the international stage, the country was represented by Meirzhan Tazdarbay, Temirlan Amangeldi, Aymedet Taufik, Farshed Ibrokhimov, and Dastan Musrepov.

The Mabuchi Motor Award was established by the Japanese company Mabuchi Motor, which specializes in the production of small electric motors. It is presented to teams that demonstrate an original approach to design, a high level of mechanical engineering, and comprehensive application of technology.
