Kazakhstan's swimming team completed the second day of competition at the 2026 Summer Asian Games in Japan, with Kazakh athletes contesting medals in three finals on Monday and two of them finishing among the top eight, according to infohub.kz.
Kseniya Ignatova, a 2024 Olympian, finished eighth in the 200-meter individual medley, which combines butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Her time was 2 minutes 16.13 seconds. China's 13-year-old Yu Zidi won the event, setting a new Asian record of 2 minutes 6.1 seconds.
In the 50-meter backstroke, Ignatova also placed eighth with a time of 28.55 seconds.
Gleb Kovalenya shared seventh and eighth places with Japan's Shuya Matsumoto in the 50-meter freestyle, with both swimmers covering the distance in 22.17 seconds. Adilbek Musin, a 2024 Olympian, finished 18th in qualifying in the same event and did not advance to the final.
Another Kazakh swimmer, Aleksandr Rumynskiy, was eliminated in the preliminary round of the 50-meter backstroke, where he placed 21st.
Sofya Abubakirova swam alongside Ignatova in the 50-meter backstroke but did not reach the final, finishing 15th overall in the preliminaries.
Aibat Myrzamuratov placed 12th in qualifying for the 100-meter breaststroke and made the reserve list for the final, but did not compete in the decisive race.
Kazakhstan's men's team also exited in the preliminary round of the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. The quartet of Maksim Klimenko, Maksim Skazobtsov, Aleksandr Rumynskiy and Fyodor Didenko finished just outside the top ten.
