A resident of Kostanay has complained about the rough actions of police officers during a search that took place in March 2026. According to her, the officers burst into the apartment without warning, pushed her and her seven-year-old son, and did not identify themselves or show any documents, reports the website infohub.kz.

The woman said that first someone rang the doorbell. When asked who it was, they replied, "Neighbors." However, she did not have time to open the door — the officers immediately barged in. "It was a mask show with machine guns. They literally stepped over me. They pushed me, and they pushed my 7-year-old son too. I fell against a corner and got scratches. I had never experienced anything like this before, and it didn't even cross my mind to document the injuries or film everything," she shared.

According to the woman, the officers were in uniform and armed, while the deputy head of the criminal police department of the city police was in civilian clothes. He did not introduce himself or show his ID, and she did not see a search warrant. After that, the police began searching the apartment, wearing their shoes and turning things over.

It turned out that the police were looking for the woman's brother, who was suspected of committing a criminal offense. The brother did sometimes live with her. However, there were also two minor children in the apartment. The younger one saw everything, while the older one had gone out to get water and returned when the officers were already leaving.

"I was scared, but my child was even more scared. He doesn't speak anyway; he's special, he's only seven. He saw all this and ran away," the woman recounted.

She noted that her brother had previously been prosecuted, and she had had interactions with the police before. However, in the past, officers came calmly, rang the doorbell, and introduced themselves. "I would have opened the door anyway. They could have come in properly and said they were looking for my brother. Why did they have to do it like that?" she said indignantly.

The woman also claims that she asked to see documents after the search had already begun. When the officers were leaving, the deputy head of the criminal police department quickly showed his ID, but she could not get a good look at it.

After the incident, she contacted the internal security department and received a response that an internal investigation had been conducted into the officer and he had been brought to disciplinary responsibility. However, the woman considers this insufficient and intends to seek further investigation. "They told me he would be punished, but I don't believe he was actually punished," she shared.

The police department of Kostanay region told the publication that an internal investigation had been conducted into the deputy head of the criminal police department of Kostanay city police, a police major, and as a result, he was given a legal assessment and brought to disciplinary responsibility. However, the specific disciplinary action and the exact violations found were not specified in the response. The department also added that the grounds for conducting the search are provided for in Chapter 31 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
