A passenger of FlyArystan was unable to find out what happened to personal items left during hand luggage screening at Almaty airport, according to infohub.kz.
A post by a user with the handle sqwwws___ is being discussed on Threads. The author described a situation involving her mother. According to the woman, her mother had checked in online in advance, but before departure discovered that her seat had been changed to 12F without explanation.
"During boarding, her hand luggage was weighed. The allowed weight is 7 kg, and they found it was overweight. Mom was ready to pay extra and ended up paying 9,000 tenge. But when the question arose of what to do with the items that could be left behind due to the excess weight, the employee said that if she left them, they would be thrown away," the post says.
The author noted that the items included valuables such as a laptop. "Even if it's a valuable item like a laptop. We were shocked. How can a passenger's personal belonging simply be sent for disposal because of excess weight? And especially a laptop, which shouldn't be treated as trash at all. In the end, Mom left only apples and candy," the post reads.
According to her, she then spoke by phone with both her mother and employees of the airline and airport. They tried to find a place where the left items could later be retrieved, but were unable to do so. The family also could not find out what happened to the left items.
"An employee suggested that the items might have been taken by a cleaner. Excuse me, but how? How can a passenger's personal belongings simply end up with a cleaner? Where are they logged? Where are they handed over? Who is responsible for them? We were told to wait for an answer. We waited, but the employee left, and another employee came instead. We explained everything again. And then we got the answer: 'We won't store them, all items are disposed of.' In the end, Mom flew away after paying for the excess weight, and we were never able to retrieve the left items, even though we were ready to do so immediately and tried several times to find out where they were," the author wrote.
She asked for an answer on where items left by a passenger are sent. "The situation with 'we'll throw away even a laptop,' 'nothing was left,' 'maybe a cleaner took it,' and finally 'everything is disposed of' leaves a lot of questions," the author concluded.
FlyArystan responded to the post. "On flight FS7191, the passenger's seat was changed from 16F to 12F in accordance with safety requirements. The passenger was informed of the seat change by airline staff at the boarding gate. During boarding, the passenger was also found to have excess hand luggage. The passenger increased the allowed limit from 7 to 10 kg by paying 11,000 tenge. When bringing the hand luggage into compliance with the allowed limit, the passenger left some food items on her own. However, the laptop and the passenger's other personal items were taken by her on board the aircraft. The airline is not responsible for items left by the passenger at the boarding stage," the airline replied.
