A 25-year-old woman has been detained in Astana on suspicion of fraud, having deceived a former classmate out of 3 million tenge under the pretext of helping to arrange a mortgage, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Interior Ministry's website, officers from the Astana police department identified and arrested the suspect. Preliminary reports indicate that the woman gained the trust of her former classmate by promising to expedite a mortgage for a large apartment. To convince the victim, she posted advertisements on social media, creating the illusion of having the necessary connections and capabilities. Trusting these promises, the victim handed over 3 million tenge.
After receiving the money, the suspect stopped communicating and failed to fulfill her obligations. During operational search measures, police located and detained her in another region.
The police remind citizens: do not transfer money to strangers or acquaintances without formal contractual agreements, and do not trust promises of expedited government services or real estate transactions. If in doubt, verify information only through official sources.
