A resident of Kosshy has lost a significant amount of money after trusting a fraudster who promised to help with admission to a Chinese university. Two other victims of a similar scheme have also contacted the police, reports infohub.kz.
The Kosshy police department received a complaint from a local woman about fraud. According to preliminary data, a man she barely knew, under the pretext of assisting with admission to a Chinese university, took possession of her money in the amount of 1 million 732 thousand tenge.
As the investigation established, a 31-year-old resident of the East Kazakhstan region, after opening a school, began offering local residents the opportunity to enroll in Chinese universities. To participate in the program, a monetary contribution was required, after which, as the organizer claimed, participants would be able to enter one of the Chinese universities within a year.
Later, two more people contacted the police with similar stories. The preliminary total damage amounted to about 4 million tenge.
Currently, police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident, as well as the possible existence of other victims. Based on the results of the investigation, a legal assessment of the suspect's actions will be given and a procedural decision will be made.
Police urge Kazakh citizens not to trust offers of guaranteed admission to foreign educational institutions without first verifying the information. Before transferring money, it is recommended to ensure the existence of official contracts, check the accreditation of the educational organization, and clarify the admission conditions directly with the chosen institution.
Citizens who have encountered a similar situation or have information about possible victims are asked to contact the internal affairs bodies.
