A 24-year-old woman in the Pavlodar region has been sentenced for attempting to sell her newborn baby for 800,000 tenge, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Pavlodar regional prosecutor's office, the woman, a resident of Turkistan born in 2002, decided to sell her unborn child while pregnant and facing financial difficulties. She posted an ad in the "balа asyrap algym keledi" community on the social network VKontakte, where she found a buyer and agreed to sell the newborn girl for 800,000 tenge.
On March 28, 2026, the woman gave birth to a healthy girl at the Pavlodar Regional Perinatal Center No. 1. Coordinated by the city prosecutor's office, the criminal activity was documented during operational and covert investigative actions. The buyer, acting as part of the operation, handed over money with pre-recorded serial numbers.
On March 31, in an apartment in Pavlodar, the woman handed over the newborn along with medical documents to the buyer and received 100,000 tenge as payment. The specialized inter-district juvenile court in Pavlodar found her guilty under Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("Trafficking in Minors") and sentenced her to five years in prison, to be served in a medium-security correctional facility. Under Article 74 of the Criminal Code, the sentence was deferred for five years.
The prosecutor's office reminded that any illegal transactions involving children carry criminal liability and are under special scrutiny by law enforcement.
