A Kazakh citizen has appealed to the republic's authorities for help, saying her son is being held and beaten at a police station in Turkey, infohub.kz reports.
The woman's appeal was published on the Telegram channel "Letters to the President." According to her, the young man is at a police station opposite Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Turkey.
"My son has been held by Istanbul police and beaten for more than 10 hours. The Kazakh consul supposedly cannot find him, even though I know police are obliged to notify about the whereabouts of foreigners," NUR.KZ quoted the Kazakh woman as saying.
The woman also said her son had applied for asylum in Moldova, but the document was not accepted and he was forcibly sent to Istanbul.
A NUR.KZ correspondent sent a request to the press service of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry said staff at Kazakhstan's Consulate General in Istanbul had met with two detained Kazakh citizens.
"They have now been transferred to a deportation center, where the issue of their deportation to Kazakhstan will be decided," the Foreign Ministry's press service said.
The ministry assured that the situation is under control.
