Kazakh freestyle wrestler Bekasyl Asambek became the silver medalist at the Youth World Wrestling Championships, losing to American Aaron James Seidel in the final with a score of 0:7. The athlete competed in the weight category up to 61 kg... reports the website infohub.kz.
On his way to the final, Asambek secured confident victories over opponents from China, Ukraine, and Russia, winning all three bouts with the same score of 10:0. In the semifinals, the Kazakh met Japanese wrestler Itsuki Yonashiro and defeated him in a tense match with a score of 3:1.
On the same day, Kazakh athlete Uldana Tileukhan won a bronze medal in the weight category up to 68 kg, defeating Ukrainian Oleksandra Rybak in the third-place bout with a score of 4:2.
Prior to this evening, Kazakhstan's only medal at the tournament in Bratislava was the gold won by Greco-Roman wrestler Kyzybek Kalmagambetov in the weight category up to 67 kg.
The world championship, held under the auspices of the International Wrestling Federation (UWW), takes place in the capital of Slovakia. It features 700 young athletes competing for 120 sets of medals in three wrestling styles: Greco-Roman, freestyle, and women's wrestling.
Kazakhstan is represented at the competition by 30 athletes: 20 boys and 10 girls. The tournament will conclude on August 23.
