Kazakh wrestler Alinur Toleugali won a bronze medal at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Baku, as reported by infohub.kz.
He competed in the 71 kg weight class. In the repechage rounds, he defeated Moldova's Bogdan Tolmachi and Ukraine's Roman Ivanyuk, then convincingly beat Iran's Esmail Zaherdust in the bronze-medal match.
Another Kazakh, Kuanyshbek Zhanazhol (51 kg), also had a chance for a medal through repechage but lost to Armenia's Gevorg Arutyunyan in the second repechage round.
Kazakhstan's U17 Greco-Roman wrestling team finished the world championship with three medals. Earlier, Diyar Amanali (55 kg) won gold, and Ali Almas (48 kg) took silver.
In the girls' competitions, Aisha Abdimalik (65 kg) reached the final, where she will face Mongolia's Ariunzul Boldbaatar. Ayanat Meinambai (49 kg) made it to the semifinals but lost to Ukraine's Olena Kolubay; she will now wrestle for bronze, with opponent to be determined. Bagzhan Kurmanbai (73 kg) also has medal hopes—she will meet Spain's Paula Benaycha Perez in the repechage. Danara Dairbekova (43 kg) and Arina Kuanyshova (57 kg) lost in their opening matches and were eliminated.
The U17 World Wrestling Championships are taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from July 27 to August 2. A total of 675 athletes are competing for 30 sets of medals (10 each in Greco-Roman, freestyle, and women's wrestling).
