Kazakh freestyle wrestler Bekasyl Asambek won a silver medal at the U20 World Championships in Bratislava, reports infohub.kz.
The 18-year-old athlete competed in the 61 kg weight category. He secured four victories on his way to the final.
In the decisive bout, Asambek faced American Aaron James Seidel. The US representative won convincingly with a score of 7:0.
Thus, the Kazakhstani became the silver medalist of the tournament. This is the second medal for the entire national team in Bratislava. Earlier, Greco-Roman wrestler Kazybek Kalmagambetov (up to 67 kg) became the champion of the competition.
On Friday, two more Kazakhstani wrestlers stopped one step away from the podium. Askhab Khadzhiev (up to 86 kg) reached the bronze medal match through the repechage round. In it, he lost to Japanese Natsure Okazawa with a score of 0:10.
Uldana Tileukhan (up to 68 kg) also competed for bronze after a quarterfinal loss. In the medal bout, she lost early to Ukrainian Alexandra Rybak, who secured a pin.
The women's team of Kazakhstan finished the junior world championships in the Slovak capital without any medals.
